Powerball is a US multi-state lottery operated by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) on behalf of participating US state lotteries. It is one of the best-known lottery games in the world and regularly produces some of the largest lottery jackpots ever recorded.
Players select 5 white ball numbers from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball from 1 to 26. Each standard play costs $2. Draws take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 22:59 ET. Because South Africa (SAST, UTC+2) is approximately 6–7 hours ahead of US Eastern Time, results are typically available on ResultsZA by approximately 05:00–06:00 SAST the following morning.
The jackpot rolls over until won. The starting jackpot is $20 million. An optional Power Play add-on ($1 extra per play) multiplies any non-jackpot prize by a randomly drawn multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x. The 10x multiplier is only available when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less.
There are 9 prize divisions. The jackpot (Division 1) is pari-mutuel. Division 2 pays a fixed $1,000,000. Divisions 3 to 9 are fixed prizes.
